If you want to experience the age-old practice of letter writing, then coming here at IISC will definitely help you relive those moments. Do researchers, faculties and students write letters?
No, they don't. IISC being the renowned research university in India too uses technology.
Most of us relate Whatsapp, Instagram, Snapchat as a means of technology for communication. Yes, it is. But aren't we missing out on something?
Electronic mail is the primary mode of communication used by everyone here.
You might wonder why the most renowned university is relying on
communications through E-Mail?
E-mail marks its own importance in our professional line starting much before one begins his career. The sooner a student puts himself into the habit of writing emails and learns the art of drafting a mail, this somewhat forgotten and age-old means of communication proves to be a powerful tool in the hands of a student. Thus many institutes of such kind encourage the idea of using E-Mails as a medium of communication.
One very important aspect is to learn when to drop a mail?
Look at the following mails I had dropped to my prof.
However, I got a response to the mail dropped at 8:43 am. Time does matter. So follow the time zone in case you need to communicate with someone abroad.
I headed towards the Nanoscience facility to attend a meeting with Dr. Manoj Varma who was my guide for the coming 2 months.
I enlightened him about my statement of purpose and luckily I was able to get to work on the field of my interest. I was assigned to work on a research project which involved steering of the swarm of magnetic nanorobots using an external magnetic field. The meeting lasted for about 10 minutes exactly followed by an acceptance of the joining report by my guide.
From here, I headed over to the Indian Academy of Sciences to submit my joining report and collect my identity card.
It was 7 in the evening, quite late I would say as I had nothing much to do than exploring the campus.
It was unusually darker at this point of time than it should have been due to the dense cover obstructing the moonlight.
Tiny speckles of light surrounded the campus while I strolled back to my room, this added beauty of the darkness was due to the fireflies which make the night alive.
Day ended with sambar, rasam, and rice for dinner.
